Do I have to be under the table? |
This week he'll be spending his first full three straight days in public, which I'm happy about, because that's a good evaluation of how he might react in a full time work situation. I'm hoping all goes well, but I'm a little nervous. I really want to be confident that he'll be perfect, but you never know.
Another thing that I'm really NOT happy about is that the other day I gave Dembre a bath and then put him in our mudroom to dry off. I didn't think about the fact that he was also with a dog we were dogsitting. I really wish I would have been watching, because they got into a dog fight. It wasn't serious... serious, but that is not allowed. When I came out and corrected them both Dembre was flat on his back, but he was involved and that's enough. I never thought he'd be a fighter and I hope it doesn't happen again, but if it does I think he'll have to be released :(

Hi Y'all,
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it was a "fight" and not loud, growly play? I ask only because you said Dembre was on his back. That is a submissive posture, as I'm sure you are aware.
Some dogs play growl and it sounds like a fight. Dembre is not fully out of the puppy stage yet. If he shows no aggressive tendencies when you have him out and around other dogs these next few days, I would suspect it was either play or the other dog started the confrontation.
Sorry, blogger is messing up. Making me use alternate ID.

Hi BrownDog,
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a fight! I've seen growly play ( which CCI dogs aren't allowed to do either), but this was a snarling, snapping kind of fight. Dembre was on his back, but was trying to fend off the other dog ( a golden/setter mix). I assume the other dog started the fight, but that could happen in the CCI play yard, which is what I'm concerned about.
Thanks for the advice :)
